Mangalore, Jun 18: The foundation stone-laying ceremony for KEB Engineers’ Association’s zonal centre building was held on June 18 in Lions Seva Mandir, Mallikatta, here.
The programme began with a prayer song by the students of TTI Balmatta. General secretary KEBEA, Er V Venkatasiva Reddy welcomed the gathering. State energy and civil supplies minister Shobha Karandlaje unveiled the plaque of the KEB Engineers’ Association zonal centre building project. State assembly deputy speaker and MLA Yogish Bhat along with others lit the traditional lamp and inaugurated the programme.
Addressing the gathering Shobha said, “This is a much-awaited project by KEB Engineers Association and today it is coming true. The building will be completed within 2 years and the total cost of the building will be 2 crores”.
Further she said that the memorandum regarding the revision of pay scale of batch 2003 and regularization of 2007 batch recruited employees would be taken care of accordingly. She said that the district has uninterrupted power supply and KEB can provide 3 phase electricty for 6 hours a day. She called on the engineers to work hand in hand to improve the quality of service. “When there is a power failure consumers will call the KEB but the concerned person’s mobile is always switched off,” she pointed out. She said that this practice must be stopped and the staff should always be ready to help when consumers call for help.
Focusing on the lack of manpower in attending the electric lines she said there is a huge shortage of linemen. Already 411 linemen have been recruited by Mescom and plan is on to recruit 2500 linemen in Karnataka, she said. “There is also lack of service stations which we have to open in various districts, 167 new stations will be opened soon in the state,” she informed.
In conclusion she asked the staff to coordinate with the public whenever there is a power failure. “Let the people talk good about KEB; when they talk good about KEB the power and energy department will also be benefited,” she said.
Er L Ravi President KEBEA and director KPTCL and AII ESCOMs felicitated Shobha Karandlaje, Yogish Bhat and Nagaraj Shetty with shawl, memento, fruits and garland.
Bhat, speaking on the occasion, said, “In a human body the heart takes the important part, because if a person’s brain gets haemorrhage the person won’t die but when the heart stop-working then the person will not be alive. Same applies to the power department. The Engineers are the heart of KEB they should perform a important role. He also suggested to conduct competitions in zones and best service zone should be awarded. If we do so, the productivity will also improve and the people will get good service from KEB, he said.
Coastal Development authority chairman Nagaraj Shetty, Er H Nagesh (Director Tech) Mescom, Er S Prathap Kumar (Director Tech) KPTCL and ZP president Shailaja T Bhat were also present.
