Belthangady: At the 41st free mass marriage ceremony held at Dharmasthala, 157 couples entered matrimmonial life.
Chief guest of the occasion, governor of Tripura Dr D Y Patil described mass marriage ceremonies as a form of community service. He lauded Dr Veerendra Heggade for his services and said that Heggade was an example for people throughout the world.
Energy minister Shobha Karandlaje speaking at the gathering advised the newly wed couples to refrain from being victims of ‘western culture’. She said that couples should stick to the ideals of Indian culture.
She expressed concerns that more than a thousand divorce applications are filed in Bangalore every month.
Dr Veerendra Heggade speaking at the gathering advised that the couple should solve the differences among them. They should not get divorced for any reason, he said.
President of Birla cements Vinod Hameerwasia and scholar Neeraj Jain were present at the ceremony.
